Terms of Use
Effective October 14, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Velyus Inc. (“we”, “us”) about your use of the Grateful Gate app and website. By using Grateful Gate, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.
1. Who can use Grateful Gate
You must be at least 13 years old. If you’re under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent or guardian’s permission, and they agree to these terms on your behalf.
2. What Grateful Gate does
Grateful Gate uses Apple’s Screen Time features to lock apps you choose at the times you set. To unlock them, you read a gratitude note from another user in the morning and write one of your own at night. Notes you choose to share are reviewed and then shown anonymously to other users.
App blocking depends on Apple’s Screen Time system and your device settings. We can’t guarantee that every app will always be blocked or unblocked exactly on time, and you can turn off Screen Time access in your device settings at any time.
3. Subscriptions
- Grateful Gate requires a paid subscription. Prices are shown in the app before you buy.
- Some subscriptions start with a free trial. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, your subscription begins and you’re charged automatically.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Your Apple account is charged within 24 hours before renewal.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Deleting the app doesn’t cancel it.
- Payments are processed by Apple. Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.
4. Your notes
You own what you write. When you share a note, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, review, display and distribute it to other users of Grateful Gate, signed only with the signature you chose. You also allow us to feature shared notes, anonymously and with that same signature, on our website and social media to show what Grateful Gate is like. You can ask us to delete your shared notes at any time (see the Privacy Policy); once deleted, we’ll stop distributing them.
Notes you keep private stay on your device and aren’t covered by this licence.
5. What you can’t share
Shared notes must be genuine gratitude written by you. Don’t share anything that:
- includes personal information about you or anyone else, such as full names, usernames, phone numbers, addresses, emails or links;
- is hateful, harassing, threatening, sexual, violent or discriminatory;
- promotes self-harm, illegal activity or dangerous behaviour;
- is spam, advertising, or not really a note of gratitude;
- infringes someone else’s rights, or is copied from someone else.
We review every shared note before others see it, and we decide what gets shared. We may decline to share any note, remove notes that were shared, and restrict or end access for anyone who repeatedly breaks these rules. A note that isn’t shared still counts toward unlocking your apps.
6. Notes from others
Notes you receive are written by other users and reflect their views, not ours. Although we review notes before sharing them, we can’t guarantee that every note will be accurate, appropriate or meaningful to you. If a note bothers you, use the flag on the note to report it or to stop seeing notes from that writer.
7. Not a health service
Grateful Gate is a wellbeing and focus tool. It isn’t therapy, medical care or a crisis service. If you’re struggling or in danger, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line in your area.
8. Our app and brand
The app, its design, the Grateful Gate name and logo, and everything we create are owned by Velyus Inc. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as allowed by Apple’s Usage Rules. Don’t copy, modify, reverse engineer or resell the app, or try to interfere with how it works or access other users’ information.
9. Disclaimers
Grateful Gate is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise the app will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Velyus Inc. won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or opportunities, arising from your use of Grateful Gate. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us for Grateful Gate in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.
11. Ending your use
You can stop using Grateful Gate at any time by deleting the app and cancelling your subscription. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms. Sections 4, 8, 9, 10 and 13 continue to apply after that.
12. Apple
These terms are between you and Velyus Inc., not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for Grateful Gate or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it, and isn’t responsible for any claims relating to it, including product liability claims, claims that the app doesn’t meet legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection claims, or intellectual property claims. If the app fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price, if any; Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm that you aren’t located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or listed on a U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Where these terms are silent, Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of Ontario, unless the consumer protection laws where you live give you the right to bring it elsewhere.
14. Changes
We may update these terms. If we make significant changes, we’ll update the date at the top and let you know in the app. Continuing to use Grateful Gate after that means you accept the updated terms.
